Standards Covered

Students will do stretches and jog. They will then practice jumping rope and compete in jumping contests.

They can do jumping in place, forward, backwards, jogging down and back while jumping, and then helicopter. The teacher will spin the rope around in a circle close to the floor, and then when it hits a student, they are out.  Long ropes can also be used with a student helper. Students may get in a line and try to go through without getting hit and then try to jump in. You can also hold the rope on the ground and a little higher and let students get in a line and practice running and jumping over.  Just remember to drop the rope if a student catches their foot while attempting to jump over.  The teacher can also have students do a limbo contest with a long rope.

Accommodations/Modifications: Students can partner with an advanced peer to help them turn the rope.  Students can also lay rope flat on the ground to jump or step over, rather than jump each time.
